Each week the Sunday newspaper is a treasure chest for Couponers. The inserts are like money in our pockets. And like many things in life, not everyone sees the same value. I just happened to be throwing away my own newspaper (after clipping the Qs of course) in a recycling dumpster when I saw a diamond staring back at me from the depths. A whole stack of inserts! I would snag them. I have tried to get coupons from our recycle center but got in trouble with the attendant for “stealing” newspaper. I told him I would recycle it again later. It did not work.

I not gone to dumpster diving, but I have taken walks around my neighborhood the night before recycling comes

I would definitely dumpster dive for inserts! Since the hubby & I started couponing we’ve been saving up to 70% our monthly grocery budget! With that kind of cash saved we are now saving back to buy our first home CASH.

If it was a dumpster that I knew didn’t have food scraps dumped in it (or something else icky), I would. Chances are anything moist/sticky would wreck inserts anyways!

Elizabeth- this particular recycling dumpster is at my kids preschool. And unfortunately I haven’t been as lucky with it lately. Just a few inserts here and there. If you really want to take up dumpster diving, I would suggest looking for a school that has one of these green and yellow recycling dumpsters. I believe technically you are not allowed to take anything out of them- but who is really going to say anything. If you really want to be sure, just talk to the school secretary and tell her what you are doing (I did). You could also talk to your local McDonalds. I have heard some people being successful with their McDonalds donating the inserts from the papers they have in the restaurant on Sundays. Also, if you ever have a specific coupon you are looking for, post it on our Facebook wall- we have some generous readers who might be willing to give them to you also! HTH.
