My BIL just gave me a great tip.  If you have ever bought from restaurant.com before you know that some of the more popular certificates sell out in the first few days of the month.   So when they offer 80% off at the end of the month, you might not have much left to choose from.  So my BIL will buy a "generic" restaurant.com gift certificate for the 80% off and then use it the first of the month to buy the restaurant specific certificate he really wants. Up to Your Ears?

So, some of us are swimming in Christmas toys.  Where to put all the new "stuff" is the question I hear being asked by many of my mom friends.  Some of them wisely sold/donated/hid the old "stuff" to make way for new.  As for me and my house, we haven't gotten that far.  We'll be adding the new goodies to old goodies that need to be reorganized.


Here's a plan that has worked well for my trio over the past 7 years.  Each birthday and Christmas we (my husband and I) have requested that grandparents and others give "the children" (or more accurately give their bank accounts) money instead of toys, while allowing a small gift, something for them to open.  Over the course of almost 7 birthdays my twins have saved up (without them being aware of it) a good chunk of money.  This has aided us in a few cases.  First, when they turned 4 we made a fairly large purchase on their behalf that they have benefited from greatly.  Second, they now have a nice little nest egg that we will make them aware of when the time is right.  Finally, this has allowed us some space in our home. 


Yes, we might have the least amount of toys of just about anyone we know but life is simpler.  If you have young children I highly recommend this strategy.  It's hard to get the grandparents on board in some cases but once you do, you won't regret it.
